Our Cytology

General Information

The cytological method of examining smears of the portio and cervix developed by Papanicolaou in the mid 40s of the last century is still today the method of choice for gynaecological cancer screening.
Meanwhile, extra-gynaecological cytology, e.g. fine needle aspiration, effusion, urine, and sputum cytology, among others, as a minimally invasive screening method on suspicion of malignancy, has proven itself.
Today, by means of immune cytology, a-typical cells can be better defined.
Our pathologists possess many years of experience and have deepened this experience by attending an intensive course of training lasting several weeks held by Prof. Frost at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore.
